LED’s are semiconductor technology based off of the diodes found in computers. Just like computers they have many similar components like a heat sink and circuitry. The quality of these components determines the quality of the LED including wattage, efficacy, lifetime and color.
Because LED’s are inherently low voltage DC they require a power supply to convert AC to DC.
LED lights are directional meaning that the light is emitted in a specific area instead of in an ambient fashion. When applied to down-lighting, area lighting or spotlights, light and energy is not wasted inside the fixture.
Benefits of Using LED Lighting
Because of their higher efficiency, LED lights tend to use 80-90% less energy than comparable incandescent bulbs. That’s a direct savings for the customer.
Since LED lights do not emit infrared light like fluorescent and incandescent bulbs they do not heat the area which results in less load on the HVAC system; an additional savings.
Because LED lights do not produce harmful UV light colors don’t fade and people are not exposed to the effects of UV radiation.
LED lights offer more colors, more beam angles and a higher attainable CRI while still being a more efficient source of light.
LED lights are made without toxic material making them safer to handle and use.
It is estimated that if every socket in the U.S. were converted from 60W bulbs to 9.7W bulbs, we’d save approximately 35 terawatt-hours of electricity in one year. That’s enough to power the lights of nearly 18 million homes. We would also avoid 20 million metric tons of carbon emissions.
Aeon Lighting Technology (ALT): A Higher Quality of Light
ALT’s mother corporation, Supermicro, is the third largest industrial server company in the world. The adaptation of server technology has enabled ALT to produce patented LED lights that are not only the highest quality on the market but also the most powerful.
Polycarbonate lenses and military grade components make ALT lights more durable and increase their resistance to shock.
Heat sink technology and heat dissipation methods derived from server heat sinks allow ALT to increase the power of their lights while retaining proper temperature levels increasing the longevity of their lights.
ALT strives to manufacture safe products, attaining safety certifications for their products including UL, CUL, ETL, TUV, CE, RoHS AND FCC as well as obtaining the 2010 iF Product design award and the 2010 M-Tech Award.
